Look, it would be foolish to try to convince you that open-world games are in “trouble” from either a creativity or sales standpoint. Some of the best selling games…well…ever belong to that genre (or utilize open-world concepts), and titles like Red Dead Redemption 2, The Witcher 3, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild obviously can’t be ignored when we’re talking about games that use that genre as the basis for some of the most impressive artistic achievements we’ve seen in any entertainment medium....

Fittingly for a drama about a detective with a taste for The Times cryptic crossword, the murder mystery is far from the only game in an episode of Endeavour. As we explore here, the prequel’s films feature nods to pop culture contemporary with the episode’s time-frame, references to Morse’s past and future cases, and of course, the traditional hat tips to the character’s creator Colin Dexter. Series 8 takes place in 1971 and so winks at Get Carter, Mr Benn, the first Confessions of a Window Cleaner book, all released that in year, among others....

Gone are cult leader Teddy and his protégé Dakota, who were both vaporized by nuclear blasts in last season’s finale. Teddy’s legacy isn’t much of one—his grand plan to cleanse the world of undesirables has left behind a barren, mustard-colored landscape. If our survivors thought the zombie apocalypse marked humanity’s rock bottom, they were sorely mistaken....

The casualties of the Vietnam War went beyond soldiers and civilians. The geopolitical morass engulfed journalists, novelists and correspondents trying to get the information out of jungles, rice paddies and cities under siege. Filmmakers trying to untangle the truths in hindsight were swallowed by the scope of the collective trauma of the conflict. Martin Sheen almost gave his heart to play in Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now. Bitter partisan rivalries erupted from the camps of Coming Home and Deerhunter....

The act of compiling a list of moments such as these – trawling through memories, devouring fan-sites, gorging on clips – really hammers home the joy of being a Game of Thrones fan. Whatever you thought of the latter seasons, or how the show ended, it’s impossible to recall certain moments from the fierce and frantic, frenetic, kinetic, splenetic, sprawling, sword-and-sorrow-soaked timeline without some part of you screaming: ‘Again! Again!...

Everything there is to know about George, voiced by George O’Hanlon, seems to be laid out in the theme song. He is the husband of Jane Jetson (Penny Singleton), they have a teenage daughter Judy (Janet Waldo), who goes to go to Orbit High School, and a son named Elroy (Daws Butler), who orbits middle school. George works at Spacely’s Space Sprocket. Modern science has not yet determined what a space sprocket actually does, but we can assume it will be clear by 2062, when The Jetsons is set....

Often I tell my friends that if the 15 year old version of myself could know about the Marvel Cinematic Universe or that there have been three Archie-inspired TV series or that Watchmen was given a television sequel that enhances/surpasses(?) the graphic novel his head would explode. You see, I remember when comic book culture was frowned upon, considered the domain of outcasts who could never function in “normal” society....

If players take their time to explore Svartalfheim, most of the islands they find will tie back to the Favor called “In Service of Asgard.” The northernmost island, Alberich Island, does not. In fact, you can’t do much on this island until later in the game since most of its challenges require items you don’t have yet. Harley Quinn Episode 13 There really couldn’t have been a more appropriate title for the final episode of Harley Quinn. After three months of solid humor, violence, and appropriately foul-mouthed jokes, the season came to a rather disappointing end as Harley Quinn (temporarily) fridged Poison Ivy, killing off one of the best parts of the animated adult series as well as cutting off any potential closure around the relationship at the heart of the show at the proverbial roots....

“It doesn’t feel like much time has passed. It doesn’t feel like we’ve earned a reunion yet.” In true Weasley-ian fashion, Grint has intuitively identified something slightly off about this whole thing right from the get-go. Perhaps the Potter team hasn’t earned a reunion yet. Though the Warner Bros. series of films based on J.K. Rowling’s books began with Philosopher’s Stone in 2001, it ended just 10 years ago with Deathly Hallows Pt....

Hulu and David Bruckner’s updated take on Hellraiser deepens the lore of the franchise in gruesome ways, setting up inevitable new stories and sights yet unseen in the Cenobite saga. The unsavory fates of struggling addict Riley (Odessa A’zion) and monstrous billionaire Voight (Goran Visnjic) we see at the end of the movie act as parables of sorts, illustrating in different ways how one’s obsession with life’s excesses can ultimately lead to an existence defined by pain....

So once again, it’s fair to say that if someone tells you to read words in an unknown language while performing a ritualistic séance, you always say nope. Or at least that is one of the many things to take away from Ari Aster’s relentlessly creepy Hereditary, a hellish marriage of The Exorcist, Rosemary’s Baby, and just genuinely bizarre weirdness. The new film includes an ending that is pretty straightforward considering that Ann Dowd’s Joanie is on hand to explain to the possessed body of Peter that he is now the newly reborn “King Paimon,” but you might be going… who the hell is King Paimon and how did we get there?...

The evaluation would’ve probably amused the writers who first began spinning Hocus Pocus’ bewitching web in the 1980s. Originally the brainchild of writer/producer David Kirschner (who would go on to help create Chucky and the Child’s Play franchise), the first draft of Hocus Pocus was penned by Mick Garris (future creator of Masters of Horror). And the pair initially imagined it to be a darker movie for a slightly more adolescent audience....

Hence Hocus Pocus 2’s fundamental dilemma. Redoing such iconography is always the greatest intimidation, yet biggest audience expectation, that comes with remakes, reboots, and legacy sequels. And it’s a kind of credit to Hocus Pocus 2 that the movie is unafraid of going full tilt for it. In fact, the most lavish of the three(!) musical sequences in the sequel is bigger than anything seen in the original, at least in terms of extras: Midler and company, as the resurrected Sanderson Sisters, stand once more on a stage in front of the adults of Salem, and this time have a whole Halloween festival at their command....

Homeland Season 7 Episode 12 For a show that prides itself on twists and turns, the season finale of Homeland Season 7 almost played out exactly how I imagined last week (with several major caveats in its very final moments). Yet while sometimes being able to see the arc of a path too far ahead can be disappointing, at least so far as television is concerned, it can also on the rare occasion be enjoyable....

The first hint at this comes in the film when the movie’s protagonists Jenko and Schmidt (Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill) are assigned to Jump Street and they’re told that the police are “reviving a cancelled undercover police program from the ‘80s.” By itself this line could just be taken as a setup for a meta joke about needless remakes and reboots, and a not full blow confirmation of being in the same universe....

The good news is that Arcane has already excelled at pacing itself when it comes to revealing champions in their full power, allowing its main characters to be featured using recognizable in-game weapons while keeping its supporting cast in earlier stages of backstory development. The show has also localized its narrative to the twin cities of Piltover and Zaun with only hints of the expansionist nation of Noxus, and as such, only League of Legends champions from these locations have been explored (with the exception of that initial glimpse of Ryze, the mage who saved Jayce and his mother)....

But as much as the fact of Jason’s death impacted Batman stories for decades, so too did its manner: “A Death in the Family” will always be remembered as the comic that gave fans a say in Jason Todd’s ultimate fate. They chose to murder a Robin. And in the latest DC Animated feature, you too will be able to choose to murder a Robin. “This was the perfect opportunity now, with the Blu-ray technology that we’ve got to re-present that famous moment in comic history,” Batman: A Death in the Family producer Brandon Vietti tells us in an interview....
