The God of Mischief was marked for death (for good) not once, but twice in the MCU. As was previously reported, Loki was never intended to make it out of Thor: The Dark World alive. Loki’s death at the hands of Malekith and the Dark Elves was supposed to be permanent, closing off a story arc that began in the original Thor and continued with Loki as the big bad of the first team up film, The Avengers....

Manifest Season 3 Episode 1 To no one’s surprise, Manifest jumped right back into the action in the season 3 premiere, “Tailfin,” and to its credit, it didn’t spend a lot of time explaining changes that were made to the dynamic of the investigation into Flight 828, opting instead to just show us. Despite continuing to rely a bit too heavily on the narrative conveniences the callings provide, the action continues to move forward, and this opening episode in particular sets up several compelling storylines in very solid fashion....

Manifest Season 3 Episode 3 This week’s Manifest episode had a lot going for it. It had government intrigue (arguably the most fulfilling aspect of the serial story over the past three seasons), a satisfying puzzle-style calling, and a return of the deep historical mythology surrounding Al-Zuras. Some might argue there were too many balls in the air at once, but the overall effect was pretty solid nonetheless. It’s too early in the season to expect answers, but there’s always been a question of what we’re supposed to focus on with so much to speculate about....

They did pretty damn well. The fourteen-episode season was well-received overall, even if it had some growing pains. The biggest issue was that the jokes were too rapid-fire and felt unnatural. Lines weren’t given time to breathe and things felt so overly scripted that you never got to hear the genuine laughter of the other riffers. Otherwise, the season had a lot to offer, including one of the all-time best episodes in Cry Wilderness....

No Sudden Move is a heist film, but don’t go in expecting Ocean’s 11, in spite of the all-star cast. This is a theft worth savoring, and Soderbergh gives the players room to breathe. Of course, any of those breaths can be a character’s last, which becomes apparent very quickly. Most of the other information trickles out like blood from exit wounds, as the film captures the most muted tones of classic film noir....

Outlander Season 3, Episode 1 We don’t talk enough about time, pacing, and chronology in television — probably because most TV shows make the same, standard choices when it comes to time in their storytelling. Outlander, as both a time travel show and a ambitiously-run prestige drama, is one of the few exceptions, playing with not only its characters’ perceptions of time, but also its viewers’. This has never been more apparent than in the Season 3 premiere, which told its story in two separate timelines, set centuries apart, paced in wildly different ways....
